My Backstory

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a passion for working with children. From babysitting during my teens, to tutoring blind students while studying at Butler University, to being a “Big Sister” for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, kids have always had a magical way of inspiring me to be a better person.

My husband John and I had always envisioned children as an integral part of our life together. That didn’t happen, though, as we struggled through a series of miscarriages and clinical diagnoses with no certain verdict.

After nearly 20 years pursuing a career as an executive in the technology sector, I was presented an opportunity to lead a child advocacy center called Chaucie’s Place… a gift that forever changed my life.

As executive director of Chaucie’s Place, I had the opportunity to work with children who were alleged victims of sexual or physical abuse and neglect.  I became a trained child forensic interviewer and guest facilitator for the Child First program in Indiana. A volunteer “Smart Steps” instructor, I also teach a “good touch/bad touch” body safety program to elementary school students, in addition to helping with various fund raising events. I am also honored to be a member of the Board of Directors for the child advocacy center in my hometown,  Sylvia’s Place CAC.

My work in child advocacy inspired me to raise awareness on a larger scale about child sexual and physical abuse, as well as become active in education and prevention efforts to protect children. As an extension of what I now believHelping Vulnerable Chlidren Stay Safe by Katie Wrenche to be my calling to help children, I one day dream of writing children’s books about real-life issues and hope their message becomes a conduit for developmental and safety discussions between children and adults around the world.

Through my blog, podcast, Child’s World News Editorials and other endeavors including contributing a foreword for the book, Helping Vulnerable Children and Adolescents to Stay Safe by Author Katie Wrench, I hope to inspire parents, teachers and other caring adults to do all they can to best protect the children in their lives from abuse and neglect. To that end, in 2016, I released a video training series for parents that walks them through practical, tactical ways to empower and educate their children about sexual abuse prevention.

My Family, My Life

Chase

John and I have been married for 23 years and are finally proud parents… to a midnight black Labradoodle named Lexi and a spry kitty aptly named Chase. This newest member of our family is named after our senior kitty, Chance, who passed away in December 2013… we sure do miss you, little buddy!

Before these little ones entered our family, we really had no idea of the joy and truly unconditional love we would experience. Our pets have indeed become our children.

I believe that caring, capable adults working together truly can improve the world one child at a time. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for joining me in this effort to protect children.
